Create agents that monitor and act on your behalf. Your agents are standing by!
How huginn is put together
Huginn is a Ruby on Rails application for building agents that perform automated online tasks, creating and consuming events that propagate along a directed graph (a self-hosted, hackable IFTTT/Zapier). It follows a standard Rails MVC layout with a large set of Agent types, a background job system (delayed_job) for scheduling and running agents, and Liquid templating for user-configurable interpolation. Data flows from Agents producing Events, linked to other Agents via control/receive links, driven by a scheduler and worker processes. The primary stack is Ruby 3.4+/Rails 8.1 backed by MySQL or PostgreSQL, with Devise-based authentication and OmniAuth for third-party service integrations.

Infrastructure
Major components
Agents
Core domain models representing automated tasks that create and consume events, propagated along a directed graph of links.
Controllers (web UI/API)
Rails controllers exposing agents, events, scenarios, jobs, services, credentials, admin and web-request endpoints.
Background Jobs / Workers
Delayed Job-backed jobs (agent check, receive, propagate, reemit, schedule, cleanup) that run agents asynchronously.
Scheduler / Runner
rufus-scheduler and runner scripts (huginn_scheduler, agent_runner, threaded runner) that trigger agent execution and long-running processes.
Concerns (agent behaviors/OAuth)
Shared mixins for OAuth service integration, Liquid interpolation, web requests, file handling, and long-running agents.
Scenarios & Import/Export
Grouping of agents into scenarios with sharing, import and export of scenario definitions.
Services & User Credentials
Storage of OAuth service tokens and user-defined credentials used by agents to access external APIs.
External API client libraries
lib/ clients for Dropbox, Google Calendar, Tumblr, Threads, Weibo, Raindrop and related third-party services.

Routine updates to JavaScript and cloud storage dependencies.
Over the past several weeks the Huginn project has focused mostly on routine housekeeping — keeping software libraries and dependencies up to date — alongside a handful of meaningful reliability improvements to how automated agents run. The standout work was making concurrent agent execution safer by preventing the same agent from running twice at once and eliminating duplicate scheduled runs. The team also polished the user-facing experience of finding and picking agent types.

Fix
Prevent agents from running twice at once
Added a locking mechanism so the same automated agent can no longer execute concurrently and step on itself.
Chore
Routine dependency updates
Refreshed several minor, development, and test software libraries to their latest versions.
Chore
Lock file maintenance
Updated the pinned versions of underlying libraries to keep the build reproducible.
